SOUTH Coast United are the first team into the Corrimal Leagues Club knockout semi-finals with a comfortable 3-0 win over the Fernhill Foxes in their quarter-final at Ray Robinson Field on Wednesday night.

In an entertaining game, United took their chances with goals to Ricky Bertakis who took on the defence in the 20th minute and scored a fine individual goal.

Player-coach Michael Santalab bagged the other two goals in the 55th and 89th minutes.

An Andrew Thompson free was headed in by Santalab for his first then a volley in the final minute rounded up the scoring.

In the second quarter-final Picton dominated the only remaining District League club, Highlands United, with a polished performance in their 5-0 win.

Norm Boardman's charges led 3-0 at the break.

Jon Passanante scored a double, while Matt Tesserio, Andrew Borg and Paul Rankin each scored one.

"Amazingly Picton finished second in the group stages to Highlands, but were a lucky wild-card entry into the quarter-finals," IFA director Paul Mahanidis said yesterday.

"Picton and Highlands played a 1-1 draw in the preliminary rounds."

Picton meet South Coast United in the first semi-final at Elizabeth Park on Sunday.
